An editor largely remains on the margins of the writings of others, although it is their primary job to select and often edit collaboratively the selected texts for the journals being helmed by them.
Ironic but true! A director behind the camera.
As a species, they have to be away from the centre and move voluntarily to the outskirts, the edges of the world, created by another mind, in ecstasy as some might claim. At best, the editors can introduce those regions or voices to their sets of audiences---and sometimes, improve a poetic piece as Ezra Pound did, decades ago, in an era now light years away from the digital one; an age where the personal counted and mentoring was the convention for senior writers and editors. All that is over now in the 21st century.
Well, Ezra Pound did that with a young poet.
And rest is history!
We no longer have that kind of talent available these days. Both Pound and T.S. Eliot changed the reading tastes and inaugurated new sensibilities via their initial collaboration on a text now considered seminal.
Current epoch is pedestrian one, dominated by high-tech and computing technology.
Imagination seems to be in crisis and form and technique also.
Operating from the margins of a literate culture, an editor tries desperately to bring vitality and the freshness of a voice. Not an easy task in a mass market driven by formulas!
Every month, at Setu, we try to perform those twin tasks only--- to select voices that are refreshing and original and worth your time, dear reader.
July-2018 edition is no exception to that governing principle.
A plethora of content that will keep you engaged.
Lot of variety.
Perspectives.
Styles.
Visions.
All thanks to your patronage and love of the contributors.
Another feature that makes us a stand-out journal is the classics revisited. This time, our special guest is Alberto Moravia.
Do visit and enjoy the splendors of a Moravian country.
You would love the roller-coaster view.
So, please, read every selected creative featured here in this monthly harvest of the best, full of vitality.
And do write in.
Your views are important.
