Knowledge
They
warned her not to learn the alphabets
for that
might bring awareness
of
ancient civilizations
to her
warm womb.
A
woman’s knowledge
can
only be kept in Delphi’s museum.
She
descended the stairs of the earth
to
learn the unknown scripts with trembling lips.
Letters
formed life’s corridor,
carried
her to a drop of moonlight
her
bubbling lips spoke half-formed words
to the
lone star.

Silence
Interview board--
they sat, Byzantine sages
flaunting their privilege
in rolled-up sleeves.
Mediocrity proven
I was shown the door---
in a muffled voice
politely asked them
to define “hunger”
silently they
Googled the answer.

Tripod
Three of us stood in the
afternoon verandah
distant from each other.
Three quaint villages
at the Wagah border,
each immersed in their
world of colours.
The azure blue sky
the sepia coloured neem leaves
the grey pigeons in the parapet
three of us wanted a touch of
the burnt sienna horizon.
