Poetry: Rehan Qayoom

After Byron's 'So, we'll go no more a roving'

To be going e'er a-roving
So late into the night

And a moon whose heart is bright

Wrong Advice

When the water-holes were dry people sought to drink at the mirage.
Evelyn Waugh. Brideshead Revisited. (1945, 1959).

“Do not answer the mobile, you will wonder”
“Do not make peace with your inner devils”
“Reject the love that brings you such terrors of confronting the heart’s truth (or it will return)”
What had I done so wrong in not being there?
When the ‘helpers’ were deluding your emotional judgements with bad advice
With their endless drone, their tireless drivel
Their deadly untruth routinely engrossed

Till you bit the tragic apple

Love the Light

Poetry is what happens when language becomes impossible.
Alice Oswald.

You are the love that is the light
And when there is no light there is the darkness
And when there is the darkness there is no love
And when there is no love it is death
And when there is no death there is the light
That is the love
That is the life
That is the darkness
