Zen Salutations
in Seventeen Syllables
to you Editors--
Enclosed are haiku
to share in your hip journal
from Cleveland's cold streets.
May they find favor
and a place to rest between
your brilliant covers.
---------
No cigarette butts
nor politician road signs,
just Spring's bright flowers.
Fly I failed to shoo
from the medicine cabinet,
pray before you eat.
The pop of acorns
among the shattered bottles
that paint our sidewalks.
One more sip of smoke,
verdant with Buddhist sutras
written in green air.
Tell me something, Lake,
if I walked on your waters
would you rock me home?
Transparent garbage
bag exposes our plastic sins
before they're buried.
