Poetry: Jerome Berglund

Jerome Berglund
1. weather balloon

diffuse ripple
by the garden gate
dusty tulips

formal wear
the vendor assures
they know me

dense fog advisory
unpitted cherries smothered
in batter

unlit road sign
for an antique carousel
story city

pruning with
a house scissors
dreamcatcher
***

2. harm’s way

empty cockle . . .
down the beach wafts
smell of garlic

child of rape
takes after
the father

over classroom
teacher presides:
pain

swiss heritage:
through our old walls
stray rounds

bunting shelters
spots of dampness
on the cigarette
***

3. dead to rights

drainage ditch
a matted bird
by the tire

amber waves
preserved forever
a drowned worm

chestnuts still
carefully inventoried…
high definition

trip to commode
before perp walk
professional courtesy

below sea level
flag on the box
still reaches up
***
