Searching Beyond the Shores
(Based on the painting by Dr. Meenakshi Mohan on the theme of “The Young Witness”)
Her gaze fixed at the water-
Moving yet deep;
Depth defying measure,
Or is it searching beyond the clouds-
Floating yet voluminously rising in a mass dense;
Substance which can be weighed never,
Or is she flying on the wings of the birds-
Free as the wind and yet needing nests;
Freedom worth a lifetime of labour!
Those who stand on the shores
With their backs to the world
Risk losing the ground
As the pull of the water and the sky is so high
That the feet refuse to be rooted anymore,
"Let the movement of the water be my shore!"
A cry emerges from the depths underneath
Where treasures lie, and, buried are the shrieks
Of those
Who had ventured before
On these voyages unknown,
But, but,
Were these the shrieks of joy
On sighting something unfathomable
In the arteries of their hearts
Which had been blocked
By the sands of the shore?
