Poetry: From the Book Lover

(Inspired by the painting La Liseuse by Serge Constantin)

Vatsala Radhakeesoon
All daily routine tasks done
Some free time at last
To win over monotony
I grab a poetry anthology
I hop on words,
caress the lines
I plunge in the stanzas,
ponder on metaphors
Similes at times make me smile,
make me sad
Vivid, rich are the images
Innovative, original are the styles
Realistic and humane are the themes
I love my flight
amidst the sky white
glittering with unique stars
elegantly black
I touch the author’s psyche
I’m part of each book
I read and read
as books are the means
to cultivate my mind
and unfailingly they go on
giving a deeper meaning
to my life.
