In Search of Bapu

Sutanuka Ghosh Roy
I stand before the barbed fence
eyes fixed on the camera lens
trying to gauge what lies on the other side.
The troops in armours follow my orders and abide
I receive a bullet under my chin
the entire land is but a waste bin,
no flowers, no birds, no butterflies
exchanged is an array of white lies.
I want a quiet corner in my room
I want the lilacs to bloom,
where are you Bapu?
