On darkness, being and inner light

Setu Editorial, August 2021

“I wish I could show you,
When you are lonely or in darkness,
The Astonishing Light
Of your own Being!”
― Hafez

And that is a primal, primary source of meaning and praxis---your own being. You continue to explore the self and inner light in your journey onwards, despite setbacks and challenges.

Your actions produce meanings for self and community and further the growth of an integrated society and culture---the narrative of progress scripted by humans over the centuries.

Nothing can hold the homo sapiens back---and for long.

Art continues to be the most crucial aid in cognizing the worlds, inner and outer and the complex interrelationships between collectives and individuals in every age.

As the civilization moves from despair to optimism, pandemic to recovery through medical interventions and mental resilience and community solidarity and actions, we can feel the liberating power of self and society in the public and private domains.

Continuing the tradition of releasing hope and courage, through words and images aesthetic via Setu, this August again brings a m├йlange of visuals and texts that will usher a missing spring in the solitude of locked-in lives by opening up fresh vistas of seeing things anew.

This month, the second part of the focus on the visual art of photography in the special edition titled: Visual Art: Flavours of Cities, Towns or Villages: guest-edited by the poet-academic-photographer Piku Chowdhury concludes with some stunning pictures.

Rest of the content is equally uplifting.

We remain grateful to each one of the featured artists and authors.

And to our dear readers for their patronage.

Keep on marching ahead!
