River

On the blue-bosomed river
tiny crests
created by the
wandering fingers
of the restive
Aeolus

break and re-form into a
ceaseless motion of
the mighty wind and
water,

while the poet-photographer
soaks in
the tranquil atmosphere.

He
traverses the deep
connections with the “pagans”

and
modern believers
the neo-Hellenic worshipers of nature;

the moment providing pathways to profound
illuminations
***

II

the women row the boat
the pink

head-dresses
announce the cause of the
odyssey---
short and different

the women cross the wide river
for those struck by a killer
called cancer

their concerns
maternal
hands joined together, in this
rowing fundraiser.

A sisterhood of shared loss, pain,
And ways of
Overcoming the
trauma.
***

Yellows

The tiny flowers
cascade down
in a tender shower
of a gold
different coloured,

the strange solitude
of the sacred ground

home to the
fairies and spirits;

the patch of road
converses
with the
fallen flowers, in this
hallowed corner;

the yellow- tree
in full bloom
contrasts sharply
with the
green
neighbours.
