BRASS KNOB
When you leave the house
with the shopping list in your
fingers and come back
with no list and no shopping
your hand cannot quite find
your polished brass doorknob
reflecting your world in miniature
at the very same moment
your children
turn into hunting dogs
watching your every gesture
and you slim down
into a single dimension
like a Greyhound dog
running like crazy
against time.
