Mohini Sharda (Women and Spring)

Mohini Sharda
Arrival of Spring

Autumn has galloped in to the horizon

with its load of dead, decaying sun -bruised, sun-burnt leaves.

As I, a seed, in the earth’s fold

shoved in by winter’s cold feet
waited for sunny, warm days to reach .
Hope they say sustains life
And it did mine.

Soon I heard a trot near me and I awakened to life Within a bow-shot of where I lay
I saw spring like a knight astride a dark steed.

It’s dazzling armour, with a rosy gleam, sparkled with a multi-coloured sheen.

Along came a naughty breeze tickling the flowers, for so it seemed,

which in merriment, gave it high -fives and romanced with the wind,
tossing, turning, twisting their head, whichever way the wind arrived
The butterflies tip-toed on blooms

My heart, in sync, danced like a plume The bees buzzed on blue-bells
And birds in choir did song This harmonious cacophony round the earth did ring
The shepherds piped songs of love

The lovers from under the sun to cooler shades retired Ah ! this spirit of spring
Why couldn’t it forever, in every heart reside?
