Special Edition: Nivedita Roy

Nivedita Roy
The Bench

Strongly rooted in traditions
A concrete foundation
The dais was privy to tales a many
The leaves hid many whispers
That floated in the airy
Refuge for the passersby
The tree hosted those noisy raptors
Human dwellers a furlong ahead
The panchayat with its patriarchal system
The panch on this  cemented platform
Silenced those rebellion voices
Thirsty roots craving for hydration
Craving to save the crumbling bastion
Of suffocating rituals and privileges
women folk warned their offsprings
To stay off the big tree
The eerie silence of the dusk hour
Stirred up tittle tattle of ghosts
Those invisible skeletons
The echoes of the tales of yore…
