The Dying City

Pinning

The billboards smirk
at the stretches of the EM Bypass
and allures us to dream of Babel
the overhead serpentine lines spread its
 tentacles into the arteries
honking cars chant incessantly
the LED light sequins the lanes and by-lanes
the insomniac city pines
for sleep.

Holding On

The heart of Kolkata soaked
in hot and cold water
for eons
the liver slow cooked as in Dum-pukht with
bland tears, turmeric fears, kesar umbrages.
The burnt charcoal heart thick with
centuries-old history float like coriander leaves
in a copper cauldron where it
holds on to the last bud
of Heron flowers.
