Special Edition: Radha Chakravarty

Radha Chakravarty
Aftertaste

aftertaste of endings
linger
on memory’s palate
languorous
as dark chocolate
delicious
sinful
mingled flavours
melting in the mouth —
sweet bliss
bitter betrayals
salt tears
laced with longings
for lost things
***

A winter without leaves

autumn’s falling leaves
tremble in dying ecstasy
as they bid farewell
to warm summer sun
after the sweet songs of spring

trees shiver, bare-branched,
hoarding in their hollows
fragments of lost seasons,
melange of mellow memories
to seed tomorrow’s budding dream,
bracing, now, for bitter cold,
a winter without leaves
