Poetry: Joseph K. Wells

Joseph K. Wells

The Story of a Life

Deep fissures run
across land now barren
once tilled, cropped
out into bitter cold….
Chapped fragments
link lost tributaries
of river sucked
bone dry on a face old.
Hard, ice melts
in soft welled
eyes that try unearth
secrets they must hold.
These lines unend,
anastomosed in a life
so finite. Wrinkles.
And, the stories untold!

A B _ _CHY LIFE!

The light dims.
Mood sets in.
Breeze runs fingers
through my hair.
My feet, a straw
to my parched mind,
dips in golden lager
topped by thick foam.
Dazed consciousness
slurps up fresh
brewed perfect concoction
of melting
sun in salty waters.
Before long
darkness shall spread
its cover, and I will
pass out yet again
with a hangover
of memories.
