The open call by the guest editor Nandini Sahu
CFP (Special Issue of SETU on Folklore)
This special issue of SETU on Folklore Studies will focus of Folklore as an allied discipline, and examine its relationship with disciplines like literature, linguistics, translation, nature /ecology,nationalism/patriotism,critical theories, mysticism, values, culture, tribe, nativity, space, race, time, heritage, festivals, myth, etc.Papers with an inter-disciplinary approach would be appreciated. In this special issue of SETU, an attempt would be made to deal with the study of folklore and the alternative
modernities associated with it. The thrust will be to review how folk literature, classical literature and modern literature exchange hands to augment each other. The contributors can
attempt to deal with oral as well as written literatures of different regions of India with comparative studies from the world literatures. The magazine will experiment with a flexible
view of folk, not making folk a part of the marginal literature by pushing it to a period before history. Thus, the modern texts in literature that have made explicit use of the folk to make it
available to the readers today may also be treated at par with the folk texts that have had only the oral tradition, called the ‘pure folk’ This issue of SETU would be of immense value for
the literature teachers, researchers, folklorists, anthropologists ,experts of social psychology, marginal studies and developmental studies, culture critics, linguists and policy planners.
The issue will be edited by Prof. Nandini Sahu, Director, School of Foreign Languages and Professor of English, IGNOU, New Delhi, India. Prof.Sahu is an established Indian English poet and folklorist.
