Poetry: Nabanita Sengupta

Nabanita Sengupta
My dream world

I own an island of
Candies and lollies
Rooms made of pastries
And toys piled in trolleys

Not just my playmates
Pegasus and unicorns
My favourite rides are on,
Dinosaurs and dragons

My friends know the passwords
No elders can trespass
We are the masters there
We hold all gate pass

Your mind holds the ticket
To my fantasy island
If you know how to dream
Whack up your wildest plan

Can you see pink sky
Or green gnomes and fairies
Or purple elephants
Blue tigers in soirées

Know you that's only way
For you to reach that spot
Let's connect all our dreams
And use the sleepy-port.

Mom’s Pets

Floating aromas and tinkling in kitchen
mom was writing her own fairy tales
goblins of potatoes and gnomes of chickens
into the pan was no place for stales

Army of foodies we lined up at table
expectant eyes and salivating gazes
What's for today, quest interminable
Our mom was always the best

There's she coming, her charming self
her hands full of goodies for us
she knows very well her little elves
with pies and tarts, no fuss.
