Sushma Malhotra |
Sushma Malhotra, currently is employed as an adjunct lecturer in the Secondary Education Youth Services (SEYS) Department of Queens College, New York City. Sushma Malhotra has worked as a teacher and assistant principal in the Education Department of New York City. She supervised the language department. In 2007, Sushma Malhotra started the examination of Hindi and Punjabi Regents for the World Language in the New York State Education Department. Since 2008 she won ten times a STARTALK Federal grant to teach Hindi to the middle and high schools students as one of the critical languages. In June 2020, she founded the online AARK Learning Academy to teach Hindi and English as a Second Language
She is the founding chair of the Association of Indian American Educators (AIAE), a non-profit volunteer organization. AIAE organizes programs to help students, teachers and parents of Indian expatriates. She has published two Hindi poetry books, "Anjuli Bhar Pushp" and "Main Tum aur Ek Dagar". Her book of English poems, "Close to My Heart", was published and released on September 26, 2020. Ashok Vyas from Golden ITV, New York interviewed her about the compilation of her anthology of English poems.
She was honored by Eric L. Adams, President of Brooklyn, New York City, on November 16, 2019, for her promotion of Hindi language, literature and culture, and for her services as Administrator and Teacher of New York City.
In December 2019 she was honored by Hans Raj Mahavidyalaya, Jalandhar for promoting Hindi in the United States. Same year she was also honored by Kesari Sahitya Sangathan, Jalandhar for her literary work in Hindi.
She attended international Hindi conferences at various places in July 2007, June 2016, January 2020. She presented papers about the status of Hindi in the United States of America.
Her article about the status of Hindi language in the United States has been published in a monthly magazine, "Hichki" and in the magazine "Pravasi Jagat" of the Central Hindi Institute of Agra, India.
Since 1995 she has been the cultural secretary of Akhil Vishwa Hindi Samiti, New York. She organizes Kavi Sammelan for various organizations and recites her own poems also.
