On Search for Excellence, Creativity and Recognition

Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected.

---Steve Jobs

Humans---the travellers, here on this planet but for brief period of time, wishing to leave tiny footprints in the infinity of cyberspace, as flying dots in a clear spring-skies--- ought to remind themselves quite often, when stuck in a void, of this famous saying by Steve Jobs, in an otherwise humdrum life that needs to be radically questioned and recast further in a ceaseless manner of development ahead---a dynamic narrative called civilizational progress and evolution via creativity and perseverance.

And equally significant, this one, a motivational message:

We don't get a chance to do that many things, and every one should be really excellent. Because this is our life. Life is brief, and then you die, you know? And we've all chosen to do this with our lives. So it better be damn good. It better be worth it.

This year's Setu awards for excellence---as its predecessors--- document that constant journey of mind and body towards that dim goal of human welfare by unlocking new frontiers of knowledge.

These also, as a guiding principle with us, powerfully recall the life-changing words by the tech wizard and life teacher, a rare tech sage going by the name Steve Jobs; a kindred spirit that continues to inspire future-gazers and the crazies for putting a dent further in the inherited universe---through his deathless credo and uplifting words.

Creativity. Innovation. Lateral thinking.

Call this strange alchemy, an evolved mental faculty by any name but its core remains same: search for quality by innovation, discovery. Excellence through industry. Dismantling the past and reassembling present for future.

The year 2021 awardees display the similar zest for change and perseverance in the field of arts, highest order of things.

The six winners of the awards, all top creatives from different geographies---Mitali Chakravorty, Glory Sasikala, Deepak Sharma, Arindam Roy, Chandra Mouli and Rajender Krishan--- embody the distinctive human quest for excellence in their chosen fields of action and meditation…and make the world, a better place.

Congratulations from the global family of Setu---more than 2.5-million hits; 5892 posts; 732 authors so far--- to the winners!

These well-deserved recipients of the annual recognition by the monthly and bilingual platform have created a niche for themselves and we are proud to recognise their unique talents and contributions to the artistic domain, most humbly. They have also enriched the journal by their magnetic presence and works.

Proud of you, Ladies and Gentlemen of the Club Excellent---a gold club!

As usual, the rest of this issue carries a lot of stimulating content---poetry; prose; critical; philosophical; reviews, visual and translation---for your discerning eyes.

We thank all the contributors, including the readers, for their support.

And, before concluding the editorial: continuing thread on excellence and its long quest, the words of the master mystic, Rumi, (who else?), as a kind of summing up the mood:

If you are irritated by every rub, how will you be polished?

Hope you will like the current edition, as you have been doing all these last years.

Please do write in.

Let us know your thoughts.

Take care!
