Resistance (Gandhian Philosophy)

Malashri Lal

Come join me.

This frugal meal of porridge

in a wooden bowl

defies the opulence of my hosts in London.

My homespun dhoti

Is my answer to bow-ties and tails.

India has people who linger in poverty,

The nation’s wealth plundered by these British.

Quit India.

Resistance is simple Satyagraha,

We are used to fasting

Resistance is abjuring foreign cloth,

Charkha khadi is ample for draping our body,

Resistance is women and men casting jewels and coins
into the coffers of our nationalist yatra.

A handful of goras have tried erasing our heritage,

Hypnotised our own people into attacking their peers.

What misrule is this gouging, grating brutality?

We are not helpless

We are not slaves

Raktabeej and demons have been destroyed by Shakti before.

The weapon against violence is

Our veracity

My body may be silenced but not my spirit

Which will prevail eternally in the vision of an equitable and

Compassionate Bharat.
