Six Poems by Tahir Aslam Gora

Tahir Aslam Gora
Translated from Hindi: Sunil Sharma

Yearly
Lizards find shelter behind the
calendar
After a year, calendar is removed from the
Wall
Replaced by another
one
Lizards move back behind those
calendars
One lizard goes down a year in a timeline
Other one slips in behind the
calendar
No repulsion felt for the
Lizards
For an entire
Year.

I lost out again

I know the meaning of loss and
winning
Both are futile states for
me
Despite that I lost out
Who won finally?
Neither I nor anybody else
What is winning and what is loss?
Although I lost once again
On the chess board, in this mad world
How much time it takes to turn the loss into
victory?
If not in a blink,
the world needs time for
changing it
I once again
Won,
In this chess game
In this idiotic
world.

The creases in the bed

How do things get lost in a small bed of
2X2 feet
Here, in this crease, found
things,
This is second fold of the
bed
The first fold hides
things, despite
You trying for their recovery for the
million time,

The second fold
disgorges
Things, despite you trying
To
Forget them for a million
time.

Tough question

Two legs, one trunk
Two arms, one head
I could not see more than that
In me,

I am sure, nobody else has got more than
That.

Forget the day

Whatever way the day got
Spent,
Try to come out of
That

Did things in the day
You cannot even think
But
The whole day was spent doing
Them

Have to come out of that
Frame
In the night, hold on to some
Ideal
Walk for a
Goal,

Have to forget the day
And enter
Another
Day.

Let it be

This is finding a shape
Sew the thing on the
paper
Maybe it turns into a
Song!
Decorate the matter by
Adding:
Stars, sequins and borders
Maybe, it becomes a
fad
If not, let the old trend remain in
vogue
Might it turn into a latest
Fashion,
It was going into another
direction
It is becoming something
new
Let it remain like
That.
