Dr
Dileep Jhaveri (born 1943), from Thane, Maharashtra, is a Gujarati poet and
playwright. He has published Pandukavyo
AneItar (1989), a collection of poems, and Vyaasochchvas, a play (2003), the latter translated into English as
A Breath of Vyas. He has edited an
anthology of contemporary Gujarati poetry in English translation called Breath Becoming a Word. His poems have been translated and
anthologised in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, English, Chinese,
Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Malaysian and Irish and Romanian languages. The
eminent poet Gabriel Rosenstock has translated his works into Irish.
His

has received the Critics Award (1989), Jayant Pathak Award for Poetry (1989), Gujarati
Sahitya Parishad Award (1990), Karunanidhi Award from BAPASI Chennai, and Jeevan
Gaurav Puraskar from Maharashtra State.
Invited
to the Asian Poets’ Conference in Korea in 1986 and Taiwan in 1995, he has also
read his poems in Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the USA (Georgetown
University, Philadelphia, Long Island University, William Patterson University).
A
professional general physician, Dileep Jhaveri serves on the editorial board of
Kobita Review, a Kolkata-based bilingual journal, and is Muse India’s
contributing editor for Gujarati. He is also on the editorial board of Kovita
Review, a bilingual journal in Bengali and English.
