Meena Chopra

Meena Chopra is a Mississauga based visual artist & poet with an unbridled passion for words, space, colours and forms. She has been practising her poetry and visual art for over three decades now. She writes poetry both in English and her native language Hindi. She has authored three poetry books and has co-edited one anthology. Her poetry has been published in many literary journals world wide. Her poetry has been translated into German and Urdu. She is a qualified artist educator and dedicates her time in teaching and working with special need students. She has been a recipient many recognitions for her contribution in art, poetry writing and community advocacy in arts and culture both in India and Canada. Amongst many others, recently she has been awarded for her distinguished work for literature and arts by 'National Ethenic Press and Media Council of Canada'. She was received 1st prize for her painting from 'Visual Arts Mississauga' in celebration of Canada's 150 years in 2017. She has been the finalist for MARTY's Awards 2019. Her visual art and poetry has been very well recognized by Charles Pachter, Canadian Master Artist and Order of Canada Honoree, in the his glorious forward of her newest poetry and art collection SHE! The Restless streak released during the fall of 2018. She has also been attached with media, advertising and education for over three decades. She has been hosting and producing a popular musical ethnic radio program in Canada and publishing an entertainment weekly called StarBuzz.

She passionately believes that art is the best way to bring communities together on a common platform and has directed and organized several art events to that effect.

मीना चोपड़ा एक मिसिसॉगा, कनाडा निवासी विसुअल आर्टिस्ट और कवि हैं, जिनके पास शब्द, रंग और रूप का एक अथक संसार है। वे तीन दशकों से अपनी कविता और कला के क्षेत्र में कार्यरत हैं। वे अंग्रेजी और अपनी मूल भाषा हिंदी दोनों में कविता और लेख लिखती हैं। उनके तीन काव्य संकलन प्रकाशित हो चुके हैं, एक हिंदी और दो अंग्रेजी। उन्होंने एक संकलन का सह-संपादन भी किया है। उनकी कविताएँ कई साहित्यिक पत्रिकाओं में प्रकाशित हुई हैं और जर्मन और उर्दू में अनूदित भी हैं। वे एक आर्टिस्ट एजुकेटर हैं और आजकल 'स्पेशल नीड' वाले छात्रों के कला शिक्षण में अपना समय समर्पित करती हैं। वे भारत और कनाडा में कई कला, साहित्यक और संस्कृतिक संस्थाओं से जुड़ी रही हैं, कई पदों पर कार्यरत हैं| अपने महत्वपूर्ण योगदान के लिए हाल ही में उन्हें 'नेशनल एथेनिक प्रेस एंड मीडिया काउंसिल ऑफ कनाडा' द्वारा साहित्य (हिंदी व अंग्रेजी दोनों)और कला में विशिष्ट कार्य के लिए सम्मानित किया गया है। उन्हें 2017 में कनाडा के 150 वर्षों के जश्न में 'विजुअल आर्ट्स मिसिसॉगा' से उनकी पेंटिंग के लिए प्रथम पुरस्कार मिला। वे कनाडा के मार्टी अवार्ड्स 2019 के लिए फाइनलिस्ट रही हैं। अपने जीवन काल में वह तीस वर्षों तक मीडिया, एडवरटाइजिंग और शिक्षण से जुड़ी रही हैं। वे रेडियो होस्ट भी रही हैं और 'starbuzz' नामक साप्ताहिक पत्रिका का प्रकाशन भी करती रही हैं।
उनका मानना है कि 'कला का साझा मंच' विभिन्न समुदायों और उनकी विभिन्नताओं को क़रीब लाकर समझने का सबसे अच्छा तरीका है और वह ऐसे कई बेहतरीन और सफल आयोजन कर चुकी हैं।
