Chiseling the Self

Rupa Rao
Every door that slammed shut on me
redirected me away, way more firmly
in spite of approaching discipline sternly
to ultimate destination carved just for me

Nothing comes to fruition before maturity
nature has a rhythm we push against adversely
in mad-rush for "success" we race absurdly
we overlook its impact on life's vitality

We're travelling since un-calendared aeons
human existence limits view to blaze in neons
blinders blur reality vs appearances put on
shallow, material, status become prize to cling on

Parents, partners, progeny, community join step for a while
journeying alone is a gift that sheds all rank and file
Closing earthly transactions, completing pending engagement
is our sole opportunity to chisel the “self” to optimal version.
