Sweet-bitter farewell

For obtaining a better living, for a full stomach diet

During leaving course of my village

I used to see back again and again, and used to wish to me

A voice from behind which would call me back in its arm.

At that point wishing a farewell to the hut of my abode

Was painful but hopeful that it is a temporary separation.

The farewell forwarded by me had been sorrowful 

And that by my near and dear a hopeful deport.

So, the business of my life became my enemy and

I could not return back into my village’s arm.

We did exchange many farewells 

At occasions of in -out journeys to my village.

They were sweet in words but bitter in meaning

I used to know but I bade these farewells.

I wept, I cursed the fate but I had to bid farewells.

Life is a dangerous entity human kind is possessing.

Farewell is a hope I forward to my loved ones.

I will come back a better man culturally and socially.

Farewell is a bonding of love among friends and relatives.

Farewell is a wonderful feeling within givers and takers.

During a journey we meet, interact, develop likings and wish

Not to snap the interests but at a point of time we depart.

That farewell is a joyous one hoping a future event 

When we meet again. 

A farewell is a formal to departing school mates, college friends.

A Formal farewell becomes special 

Which are exchanged during love and struggle for a success.

Separation is an ought to be event which we know.

We use to have an opportunity to celebrate it

By bidding a hugging farewell.

It is a feeling of concern for 

When we feel sorrow bidding a farewell.

A farewell is tough when gifted to your daughter

You are forwarding a challenge to readjust a future

It is so sad and painful.

Parting for life is a saddest event.

But we must celebrate it 

Since it is an eternal truth.

Since it liberates from all sins, all sorrows.

I wish the happiest farewell to all occasions.

Bio: Graduate mechanical engineer. Arun served in COAL INDIA LIMITED in India almost 34 years at different levels.

Composed poetry from early age. First published in 1961 in a magazine from Patna. Recently he published three poetry books in Hindi language during the year 2024: “Atmkatha dange ki aur dusari kavitaen”,Gaaov” and “Ujale tum hamare ghar bhi ana”.
