Shyamasri Maji is an Assistant Professor in English at
Durgapur Women’s College, West Bengal. She loves to write short stories on
women’s struggle in a patriarchal society. Her stories have been published in Unish Kuri (“Nijer Sange”), Muse India (“The Nettle Leaves”), Six Seasons Review (“Maya’s Apartment”)
and Story Mirror (“The Birthday
Party”). In a society governed by the
patriarchal norms of beauty, women with not-so-beautiful-skin are often
subjected to social discrimination, ridicule and pity. The “Skin Poems” is a creative
project for representing the attitude of society towards women with different
dermatological conditions and complications. It also highlights the agony,
struggle, desires, anger and resilience of these women.
