Elemental: Sutanuka Ghosh Roy

Sutanuka Ghosh Roy
Born of earth
a winged seed
 nostrils full of body odour
I weave an earthy civilization.

Born of air
kneading the azure sky,
I whisper into the
ears of Sundari
and Hetal trees.

Born of fire
I burn my frame
in the ghats of Manikarnika
sprinkle the ashes over the
ruins of Lothal
and walk bare feet down
the course of ancient Sabarmati.

Born of water
a blue hyacinth
I listen to the daily chores of Grey Heron
 and Little Egret.
The water chestnut touches
the navel
the feet touch the step-well of yoked desires
I wait for tomorrow’s rainbow.

    Luminous writing: congratulations, Sutanuka!
