Azaleas
Big
azaleas red pink purple
azaleas shaking in morning sun
as children call children to play.
Oozing from thick bushes delicately
perfumed azaleas glorious azaleas
bees spinning spinning spinning.
Children singing out names while
chameleons crawl in shining grass
lustrous azaleas bright satin.
Azaleas gleaming azaleas starlings
slip from
branch to branch gliding to
bushes stretching red pink purple.

Mysterious
Divine purple wild wisteria
vines of flowery grapes growing
on branches wrapping tree trunks
enormous moon blooms delirious
Wild mild wisteria wondrous
aromas falling idly from ferns
winding wandering through winds.
Wisteria purple white mysterious
lisping whispering softly luminous
as raindrops sparkle upon blossoms
enormous wisteria star lights delirious.

Pink Begonias
this long weekend.
Clouds stretching the horizon
as a young man skates by.
guitars strum soft songs and
children skip in perfect rhythm.
Bright pink begonias
begonias everywhere.
You kiss kiss my lips again again
always begonias begonias
growing bigger every minute.

Live Oak Boughs
Boughs
build archways as tips
of trees touch each other. What
was shaded green becomes
nocturnal shadow. A crescent moon
hangs from heaven. Light tracing
leaves falling dropping deep
in the
quiet garden.
Secrets lie within edged shadows.
Animals hide under darkness
resounding through night
as leaves rustle. All changing
except this pattern of what
is now formed.

That Long Afternoon
The air became heavy wiping
willows along skyline.
Blue jays sped to bushes
startled by thunder.
Rain drops linger on face
cascading arms
falling from fingers.
Lying on lips now
precious cool.
We listen to rain
caressing flower beds.
Circles of water
spreading wider wider
laden with moist
scents of summer.

Slides under door jambs,
pouring through windows,
painting my room black.
This evening was spent
watching old movies.
Song-and-dance actors
looping through gay,
improbable plots.
All my plates are put away,
cups hanging on hooks.
The towel is still moist.
I blow out cinnamon candles,
wafting the air with spice.
Listening now to heat
sputtering and dogs
barking at winds.
Winds pummel skeletal
trees as the moon’s big
yellow eye haunts shadows.
Imagine
Imagine to be a bird
slicing air with wings.
Up up over that horizon
soaring through clouds
away from solemn earth.
Shining, shimmering
far above this sphere
into clear blue light.
Cutting through sky
gliding over oceans
eyes open all seeing.
Awake all day all night
brushing rushing
against the four winds.
Imagine to be a bird.
Nightscape
Fog horns sound though
air soaked in blackness.
All evening long listening
to hiss of trucks, cars.
Shadows brush across walls
as trees trace their branches.
Gathering and waving
together then swaying apart.
While I sleep, stars glide
through heaven making
their appointed rounds in
ancient sacred procession.
Dreams as smooth as rose
petals spill into my mind
growing wild patches in
this dark garden of night.
Another Night
Once again waking
to flashing blue lights.
More guns,
more assault weapons,
more mass shootings,
more death.
Darkness pierced by sirens,
angry screams,
air spinning with smoke.
Blood on streets
slick and slippery.
My weary eyes want
to stay shut and
my lips pray for
long nights of silence.

Woods
Sliding through archesof elms sunshine
yellow and warm as honey.
Moss crawls over mudstone
while squirrels skip
around tree stumps.
Imagine to be a sea gull
in blue wind pushing
air through your wing.
After the long rain
pine trees bending
with cones.
Branches etch evening sky
turning razzle dazzle
purple red citron.
Leaves drop like butterflies
filling the floor of forest
with crunchy foliage.
See this snowy storm of
light quickly quietly
covering our moon tonight.
Long winters keep
greatcoats of frost
wrapped around our woods.
Present
You gave mefive brown pods
to grow in
my garden bed.
I put them
in a glass jar
with my locket.
Five brown pods
winding through
heaven. Weaving
night with winter
wishes for wisteria.
In a flower dress
wandering over
perfumed fields
I sleepwalk
searching for
my golden locket
and your embrace.
This Autumn
Amazing how many starsfit inside my windowpane.
A flying carpet of
sugar maple leaves
unfurls along my road.
Just enough light to glimpse
silhouettes of yellow trees
against the dove grey sky.
Tenacious…one ragged
leaf clings to the bough.
After evening showers,
a garden of bright meteors
blossoms.
