Special Edition: Roopam Chadha

Roopam Chadha
Contemplation

The air is still, around the bare trees
Bereft of nests, and emerald greens
They once flaunted, during the spring and summer
The pallid sun, wakes up from its winter slumber

The park is lonely, lingering with sorrow
The homes are empty, a void too big to swallow
The dew in the grass, sits fresh for days
No feet run on it, no footsteps to chase

The glass window, witnesses the solitude and despair
The ochre leaves fall, after they have lived their share
The silence is deafening, after the evening gloom sets in
The ears crave, for the din of the kin

The wind is cold and dense, a whispering melancholy
The gnawing loneliness, yearns for company
Which filled the house, with guffaws and bonhomie
If winter is harsh, then spring will be balmy

Earth Melodies: Roopam Chadha

Roopam Chadha
Spring

The orange canvas of the morning sky
wakes upto the enchanting melodies of a little canary
perched on a tree nearby
calling it’s mate of yore long gone by
the bees and butterflies buzz and twirl on dew kissed petals
like little colourful angels
humming in rhythm, the onset of spring
***

Autumn

The russet leaves rustle
as the evening zephyr blows
each leaf whispers its story
and dances to glory
to the cadence of the breeze
before it falls
on the bosom of the earth
from the gnarled branches
which once held them together
in all kinds of weather
the crinkled sepia frond crackle
as life begins to seize
but only to be born again and again!
***

Rains

Pearls from the heavens
fall on the earth
knocking on each roof
the pitter patter of sparkling drops
dance in mirth
filling the void of hunger and heat
raindrops are a refreshing treat
cleansing the earth of dust and angst
spreading the message of hope and joy

Summer 2024: Roopam Chadha

Roopam Chadha
Winds Of Summer

Winds of summer blow
to the chimes of her silver anklet
when she walks over the sands of dried rivulet
where once gushed the crystal flow

Winds of summer blow
ripening the mangoes from
emerald to amber
swaying the fields of hope where
vibrant marigold and sunflowers grow

Winds of summer blow
across the lush verdant hills
to unfurl the hues of winter
under the warmth of the azure sky
melting the pearls of snow

Winds of summer blow
to meet the scent of petrichor
where cuckoos sing on soaked branches
and peacocks dance in mirth below

Winds of summer blow
to the rhythm of guffaws
when the kin gets together
on the terrace, on jute charpoys
and silver spangles of the cosmos
shine and glow

Mahatma Gandhi: A Legacy (Gandhian Philosophy)

Roopam Chadha
Gandhi is a legacy
He is present in every man, woman and child
He is a Hindu, a Muslim
A Sikh, a Christian
He is an entire nation

Gandhi is an ideology
He is an ideology to be followed fearlessly
An inspiration which united the people selflessly
An expression of the youth
A motivation to speak the truth
A guiding light to stand up for what is right

Gandhi is a power
A power which held the indigo Satyagraha in Chamaparan
Which held the Dandi March for salt relief
Which spun the charkha and instilled self belief
A power to be Swadeshi

Gandhi is a voice
The voice of the helpless farmers who lost their lives
The voice of the helpless women and their unheard cries
The voice against sati and the caste system
The voice against the colonial dictum

Gandhi is a belief
A belief which takes you through the pain and perseverance of those who survived
Which takes you through the suffering and endurance of the deprived
A belief which bent, broke and overthrew the British monarchy
To put an end to injustice and slavery.
