भीड़

हर तरफ भीड़ है

कहीं पार्टी की रेलों की

कही विजय जुलूस की

तो कहीं प्रतिरोध या रोष की

मैं ढूंढता हूँ अपने को

इस भीड़ में तन्हा तन्हा

अजीब रस्म है इस भीड़ की

जहाँ हर इंसान अकेला है

महज जुनूनी शोर का हिस्सा है।

दीवारों पर लगे पोस्टर की तरह

निर्जीव और लाचार।

भीड़ चाहे राजनीतिक गलियारों का हो

या चौराहे का हर जगह वह चेहरा है

जुनून और बदहवासी का।

अंतर्द्वंद्व

कुछ टूटे बंधन हैं

कुछ ख्वाब अधूरे है

आँखों की बेरुखी है

पलकों पर टूटे सपने हैं

अनुरक्त, अव्यक्त जो भी है

वही तो भावों में तिरोहित है।

क्या ढूंढ रहा हूँ पता नहीं

फिर हृदय क्यों यह

दग्ध,विकल है?

स्वर सुधा से सुभाषित जीवन

निर्लिप्त भाव से अंकुरित यह तन

फिर यह झंझावत कैसा?

यौवन के स्पंदन में

यह विद्रूप स्वर कैसा?

क्यों भावों में लिप्त राग

उलझा है वैरागी मन से?

पहाड़ और नदी

एक पहाड़ की तरह खड़ा रहा मैं

नदी की तरह चलती रही तुम

मेरी जड़ता मेरी प्रकृति थी

तुम्हारी गति तुम्हारी प्रवृत्ति

न कभी मैं ने पूछा तुम क्यों चल रही हो

न तुमने कभी पूछा तुम क्यों रुके हो?

मैं देखता रहा अपलक तुम्हारे प्रवाह को

तुमने मुड़ कर कभी नही देखा

मेरी जड़ता को।

दोनो सहज थे अपनी अपनी नियति में

मैं स्थित रहा अपनी स्थिरता में

तुम चलायमान रही अपनी गति में।

शायद यही फर्क था

हमारे स्वभाव का।

बादल की अभिलाषा

बादलों ने हवा से जो पूछा उसका हाल

उड़ा ले गया वह नील गगन के पार।

बादलों ने कही हवा से अपनी बात

हसरत इतना था चलूं, मचलूं मैं अपने ही लय में

और वरसू  भीगा तन धरा का

तुमने मेरी सुनी ही कब?

हवा ने कहा मैं बहता हूँ अपनी गति से

जो सामने आता उसे ले चलता अपनी ही दिशा में

मुझे मालूम ही क्या?

कौन चाहता है क्या?

मैं निर्वहन करता अपने प्रकृति धर्म का

तुम चलते हो अपने मन से

इस गुफ्तगू में रात ढल गई

चांद की चांदनी में

बादल की गर्मी ढल गई।

चांद की शीतलता ले बादल

ज्यों बरसा तप्त धरा को

निर्मल, शीतल कर गया।

राम

 

राम की कथा जो तुमने लिखी 

और हमने सुनी वह अधूरी थी 

वे तो कण कण में रचे बसे हैं

जन जन के मानस में 

मूर्त, अमूर्त, सजीव, निर्जीव में 

हर प्राणी की आती जाती सांसों में, 

आस्था के विराट स्वरूप में

अगम, अगोचर,

न होने में होने के भाव की तरह।

मानव के संघर्ष में 

मनुष्य से देवत्व की राह पर

हर उस प्राणी के प्रणेता की तरह 

जिसकी अच्छाई ही उसकी शक्ति है 

और अटल विश्वास संबल। 

उस निष्ठा की जो समस्त विश्व को 

एक समावेशी समाज में

बदल देने का संकल्प है। 

जहाँ भेद नहीं ऊँच-नीच का।

राम मर्यादा का नाम हैं, निश्चय का नाम है!

राम युगश्रष्टा हैं, युगद्रष्टा हैं 

जिनके करों में काल, ब्रह्मांड 

अटखेलियाँ खेलते हैं 

सृजन और परिवर्तन की।

समुद्र की छाती पर खेलती लहरों की मानिंद!

हर युग का एक राम है 

उसके आदर्शों, अस्मिता और सत्य

के पीछे खड़े एक विशाल चट्टान की तरह। 

जो तोड़ती हैं असत्य, अन्याय 

और हटधर्मिता को।

राम एक सतत धारा है 

जो जोड़ती है युग को युगों से 

सभ्यता को सभ्यताओं से 

मनुष्य को मानस से।

राम कहानी भी है, कविता भी 

और मानव की परकाष्ठता 

की अमिट गाथा भी!

क्या समेट पाएगी इस विराटता को

लेखनी किसी युग की?

अलख, अविरल, अमर ज्योतिपुंज हैं राम

कालातीत जिजीविषा का नाम है राम।

एक अहल्या तुम भी तो हो

(यह कविता उन सभी नारियों को समर्पित जो आज भी अपनी अस्मिता के लिए मुक्ति का भाव लिए संघर्षशील है!)

शापित हो, तुम कलुषित हो

नाम कई तेरे, उपनाम कई

देवी हो या नारी तुम?

शोषित हो तुम, शापित तुम

एक अहल्या तो तुम भी हो।

युगों युगों की कठोर साधना में

संचित मुक्ति का भाव लिए

एक अहल्या तुम भी तो हो।

कभी किसी दुशासन ने हरा चीर तुम्हारा

कभी किसी रावण ने छल से हरण किया तुम्हारा।

एक अहल्या तुम भी तो हो।

पायल की खनक, पैरों की थिरकन

साँसों की सरगम, आहत मन के क्रंदन से

झंकृत लोलुप मौन सभा गूंजा तेरी पीड़ा की आहट से

एक अहल्या तुम भी तो हो।

उच्चावासों की अकथ बैचेनी, मौन क्रांति को

सुरों के सरगम में पिरो कर

उद्वेलित किया जन मन को।

तो कभी त्याग की वेदी पर

स्वयं की आहुति दी तुमने ।

एक अहल्या तुम भी तो हो!                               

खामोशी में क्रंदन का स्वर,                     

हँसी में छिपा तेरा आहत मन।

पाषाण देह और मन धारण कर

जग का वरण किया हँसते-हँसते तुमने

एक अहल्या तुम भी तो हो।

युगों युगों की संचित तपन,घनीभूत पीड़ा की जलन

ओस बने तेरे अश्रुकण, क्या कभी मिटा पाएंगे?

एक अहल्या तुम भी तो हो।

भूल जाओ कोई राम आयेंगे तुम्हें 

शापित जीवन से मुक्ति दिलाने।

जागो तुम अपनी पाषाण निद्रा से झंकृत कर

अपने मन की वीणा को क्रांति के स्वर से।

तुम्ही साधना, तुम्हीं शक्ति और जीवन की अविरल गंगा!

जागो तज कर झूठी आशा और दिलासा

कि कोई आयेंगे तुम को मुक्ति की राह दिखाने।

एक अहल्या तुम भी तो हो।

बुत

चाहतों की कसक थी

दिल में यादों का गुब्बार था

नजरों में धुंधली आकृति का शुमार था।

देखा जो मैने वह पत्थर का बुत था

कुछ अलासाई निगाहें थी उसकी

कुछ तिरछी मुस्कान।

बेजान जुबान और दिल में तूफान।

छुआ तो थिरकन हुई उंगलियों में

जैसे पत्थर में आई हो जान

अनजानी कसक थी जिसका

नहीं था मुझे कुछ इस से पहले भान।

सुना था पत्थरों में भी जान होती है

प्यार से छू ले कोई उसकी भी अरमान होती है।

फिर किसी चाहत ने मुझे जगाया था।

शायद सोते हुए उसने मुझे फिर जगाया था।

पत्थर की मूरत में संगीत पिरोया था।

कितना मधुर था वह संगीत जिसे

मैंने बहुत दिनों के बाद गुनगुनाया था।

एक मूक संवाद ही तो था वह

जो मेरे दिल के झरने से फूट पड़ा था

बहुत  दिनों के बाद।

आदमी पत्थर बन जाए

यह बात तो थी आम

पर पत्थर में आई हो जान

यह बात सुनी थी बहुत दिनों के बाद।

रिश्ते

जज्बात वही, ख्वाब वही

इंसान बदल क्यों जाते है?

अरमानों की डोली सजा कर

छुप-छुप कर रोने वाले किस फितरत

के मारे होते है?

आवाज वही, अंदाज वही फिर

मुस्कान बदल क्यों जाते हैं?

रिश्ते अपने हो कर भी बेगानों की

महफिल में क्यों सज जाते हैं?

न दर्द ठहरता है, न खुशी ठहरती है

फिर भी रिश्तों का क्यों बाजार सजा?

बेचने को बहुत कुछ था फिर तुमने

रिश्तों को ही क्यों बेच दिया?

अपने को अपनों से चुराकर भला हम

कब तक जी सकते हैं?

पेडों के बिना जंगल की भला पहचान कहाँ?

अपनों से कट कर जीना जीवन का यह

कैसा अभिशाप?

रिश्तों को मार कर जीना, ऐसा विधान कहाँ?

रिश्तों में ढलना सीखो, रिश्तों को जीना सीखो

तभी जगत का मर्म और रस जीवन का पाओगे।

सवाल?

हर बार एक सवाल पूछती है वह

और छोड़ जाती है अनगिनत सवाल मेरे लिए

उलझनें परत दर परत मायूस कर जाती है मुझे।

मैं पूछता हूँ अपने आप से

हर सवाल का ज़बाब और डूब जाता हूँ

ख्यालों के समंदर में किसी शाम की उदास

चादर में लिपटी ख्यालों की बदहवासी में।

मुझे तोड़ती हैं उसके सवालों की लकीरें

चुभन जगा देती हैं अनगिनत टीस

जिन्हें मैंने सहेज रखा है अपने बंद आस्तीन में

अबूझ और पुराने किसी पहाड़ की तरह

उस जंगली नदी की तरह जिसने मानो

जंगल की खुशबू, दरिया के संगीत और 

जानवरों की चीख को 

दबा लिया है आपने अंदर

और बह रही है अपनी ही धुन में

निर्भीक, निरुत्तर, निरंतर जैसे वह अनिभिज्ञ हों

जंगल के कटने से, पहाड़ों के गिरने से

अनुत्तरित अनेक सवालों से

मेरी तरह।

अहसास

      

वो दिन भी क्या थे?

दर्द था पर अहसास नहीं

शब्द मूक और सवाल गहरे थे

पतझर के मौसम में भी बहारों का

आलम था।     

शब्द खामोशी के घेरों में खो जाते थे

झनकते सितारों की महफिल में

चांदनी में नहायी किसी रात की तरह।

रास्ते की तलाश में होते थे

अपने अपने आकाश की तलाश में

तैरते किसी बैचेन परिंदे की तरह।

रास्ते थे पर मंजिल नहीं फिर भी

कहीं नहीं पहुँच कर भी पहुँचने का सुख था!

वो दिन भी क्या थे?

जब तुम नहीं बस तेरी यादें थी

किसी जंगल की अल्हड़ हवा की तरह

जो चुभती भी थी और सुकूने जिगर भी देती 

अब यह आलम है कि ना वो दिन हैं

ना वो यादें बस मेरे साथ है

अहसास का वो सफर जो 

अधूरा हो कर भी पूरा है।

मौन

(यह कविता फ्रांट्ज फैनन की पुस्तक "ब्लैक स्किन एंड व्हाइट मास्क" और  "रेचेड ऑफ द अर्थ" से प्रेरित है।)

मैं खड़ा हिमालय सा मौन

डूबा हूँ अपने ही आँसू में।

अपने होने का अहसास

अजनबी की तरह ढूंढ रहा हूँ

अपनी भाषा, संस्कृति और देश में

क्या-क्या न सहा, क्या-क्या न किया?

फिर भी मैं अकेला हूँ।

टूटा हूँ मैं कई बार पर बिखरा नहीं

झुका नहीं पर खड़ा हूँ लेकर भार

अपने कंधों पर।

पीड़ा की ज्वाला में

स्वयं जल कर दी जग को शीतलता।

संतप्त हूँ किंतु किंचित नही भयभीत मैं।

शोषण की पीड़ा में अविचलित

लिए युगों का भार खड़ा हूँ!

न्याय चाहता जिसका मैं अधिकारी हूँ।

अपनी कहानी अपनी जुबानी कह कर

बस सोते को जगाना चाहता हूँ!

धर्म, धैर्य है तो सुनो मेरी कहानी

भेद, भाव, उत्पीड़न के विष को पीया मैं ने ।

जाति, वर्ग के दंश को हँस हँस कर जीया मैं ने।

मेरा मौन मेरा अतीत था ।

अब मुखर मैं, मैं वाचाल हूँ।

पढ़ना, लिखना सब जनता हूँ।

तुमको तुम्हारी ही भाषा में     

समझाना जानता हूँ।  

पहचान दिया जो जग ने मिटा उसे  

इतिहास नया गढ़ना चाहता हूँ।    

अब मैं अपनी भाषा में अपनी   

कहानी लिखना जानता हूँ   

मैं कौन हूँ?  

अब मैं यह जानता हूँ।

कविता: प्रिय फिर मैं आऊंगा...

स्याह रात की कालिमा को

बस जरा मिट जाने दो

पूरब की क्षितिज पर लाली उग जाने दो

घोर घटाओं के बादल को

एक बार बरस जाने दो।

एकाकी मन को सरस

प्रेम सुधा से हो जाने दो।

प्रिय तब मैं आऊंगा तेरे पास।

आलिंगन में बंध प्रेम सुधा बरसाने को।

मूक पक्षियों को फिर कलरव गान गाने दो

ऋतुओं को धरा, उपवन के

कण कण में सज जाने दो।

प्रिय फिर मैं आऊंगा तेरे पास

हर पल, हर यादों को सहेज कर

खुशियों से तेरे दामन भरने को।

निशा निमंत्रण है, अंधेरे का साया है

कुछ विकट, कुछ विकल परिस्थितियाँ हैं।

एक बार इन्हें मिट जाने दो

फिर मैं आऊंगा तेरे पास

रीते मन को सरस बनाने को।

जग की पीड़ा से आहत मन

घोर गर्जन का स्पंदन, शिथिल समय

का अविरल क्रंदन, अवरुद्ध करता

आतुर मन को प्रेम सुधा बरसाने को।

बस एक बार ठहर जाने दो

विप्लव के इस बादल को

प्रिय एक बार बरस जाने दो

काल के प्रहार को।

एक बार रुक जाने दो।

प्रिय फिर आऊंगा मैं बार बार

गीत कोई नया गाने को।

Broken in heart carrying our bags and children
On our backs sweltering, sweating and panting
We were painting our great spectacle of endless march
To distant lands like migratory birds in search of their sky.
We were walking barefooted with pangs of hunger
and burdens of broken dreams like clouds in dark firmament.
We were walking to our distant homelands as aliens in our own country.
Fears writ large on our gloomy faces, hope in our sunken eyes
For completing our odyssey, faltering and falling
Driven by our life wish, knowing not what destiny awaits us
On the way or at the end of our endless journey?
Were we sitting on the heaps of ashes?
We gathered from their homes bit by bit?
What made us to cling to our frail hope?
We know not, we understand not.
Why were we seeking shelters in the land of strangers?
Among the uncapacious souls?
Neither that city nor they were ever our loving homies
Yet, we staggered our toil to make their dreams real
Selling our sweating labour with scant wages.
To keep them warm and cosy and to be thrown out
When we needed them most.

Here, we go stranded, faceless and nameless
On highways, railway tracks, streets for life or death?
Who will remember our ordeal saga of sufferings?
Perhaps, none but those deserted winding roads
On which we treaded to our long destinations
With heads on with hovering clouds of uncertainties.

Earthen Urn

I gathered the ashes
from the cold pyre
smeared them on my forehead
sprinkled on my body
and rest gathered in the earthen urn
to set afloat in the Ganges
running across valleys,villages, cities
and green patches where animals eat grass
and lie to sleep on bare patches.
Whose ashes were these?
The ashes of the brave soldiers
who lost their lives on duty
in Naxal attack?
Or some loved one?
Or soldiers bravely facing
the enemy’s bullets?
Whose bodies are torn
and have a hundred patches?
They are blessed persons
whose self and soul are immersed
in the love for country...
I salute them whose sacrifice
reminds us -
they courted countless troubles,even death
so that we could live in peace.

REQUIEM

Here lying
in winter afternoon,
flashing the days spent
with you wrapped
in moments sweet and sour.
I cherish the sweet sensations
in my nerves.
Sketches splash before my eyes
in many geometrical forms
wet in colors and smell
caressing my nostrils, shoulders
and bare chest against yours
in elecromagnetic circuit
of wild sensation
and you call it sensual and therapeutic
in your moans and whispers,
acknowledging with
convulsive currents and frentic kisses
on cheeks,lips and ear lobes
arousing the cupid in me
in all shades and rhymes
and inviting me to scale, intersect you
in different shreds and shapes
unknown to you.
I sail across the soft and supple terrain
in spasmatic torrents losing
the heat of my body
in the sea of tranquility
after frentic waves settle
melting their widerness
to the calmness of the sea.
It is placidity of a turbulent sea
after maddening storm,

a sailor’s sense of victory over
the hostile seductive swings
courting calmness of meditative moments
over clamorous sea.
Like a seasoned sailor in his frail boat
tossed up in the storm
I say to myself - ‘This too shall pass’.
My heart is filled with a void
between the two silences
and I feel the aching void within-
the joy of melting and the pangs of separation.
I bemuse in serpentine lock
of your slender arms and seductive
dalliance like a patient put on anasthesea.
The shadows fall behind,
weaving a pattern of light and darkness,
I feel like a prisoner lying in Plato’s cave
closed to the outer world
till the philosopher in me beckons
to see the reality beyond the cave walls.

EYES

Eyes shout in silence
Screams in lonely nooks of attic
Like a lacerated lotus in a lake of tears,
Defying the gleams of hope, flames of flickering shadows
Of being what shapes the worldly notions
Of your beauty, seductive dalliance
In erotic silence and sublimity.
And   paint you like an object
Put in an illusive glass case in a shopping mall.
Where have you lost the fire of Kanagi ,
That burnt the city of Madurai with flames of fury ?
Fire that flamed the eyes of Durga and Kali
To end the diabolic saddles of blood and rancour.
Reincarnate yourself, igniting the fossilised fire
To raze the unbridled devilish madness
Let loose in the insanity of the world.

MOMENT

A moment slipped stealthily
Out of twig of time and suddenly lurched
in the silvery beach.
Girdling  around  the erupting blue womb.
The frenzy wave measured its fragility
Out of vagarant ripples of eternity
Summoned to the grandeur  of poise.
The flickering moment whispered:
I am eternal, invisible fed on the flame of eternity.
Often I decode divergent signatures on sandy mounds.
Of embroidery carved on my sandy face
Weave them on the canvas, unaware
Of the cool breeze and emerald waves.
Which get lost in those  outstretched arms.
I don’t know, how those shapes sink
in the granules of oblivion.
And take the shape of sandy sculpture.
On the bed of time.
               

CHILD LABOUR

You tiny wonder of the world
What disparity haunts your infinitesimal entity,
When children of your demeanour feed on fairy tales,
Games  and soulful songs of mysterious harmony.
What a dark world awaits your destiny in streets.
Roadside dhabas , gloomy factories
and loosely hanging harbours,
Doing  odd jobs as domestic help in voluptuous homes.
When children of your age play thrilling games;
Of killing a dragon or catching a Pokemon,
Sing chorus in school.
You get to work with ash smeared body,
stained , small palms and staggering steps
Hiding in your sleeve the burden of worries.
Stifled sighs melted into heavy heart
get suffused with morbid sensations of convulsive jaws.
When you needed toys and books.
They overburdened you
With bricks, stones  and  sickle.
And forced you in the soulless world
of brooding  indulgence.
Where you lost your innocence
to heartless, monstrous trap.

Old Mariner

You breathe
into  the sensations of  feelings
which can be felt
like millions of intangible granules,
pulsating with volcanic eruptions
in some  dark cavity.
You are like thrust of wild wind
which would get lost
in some dreary desert,
touching my lonely  heart.
You are like mad torrents,
soaking the heat of my body,
Which would flow into
some ferocious crevices.
You are a book of untold stories,
as I try to browse through it,
I get lost in the riddles
of  words and mazes of lunatic tonality.
You are a story buried deep
in the caverns of a closed chamber,
which has neither a biginning nor an end.
Are you a fragile thread or a bond untied
floating into some vermillion lake?
Or some cursed self like old mariner
condemned to tell your story
to every rippling wave of sailor?

Chandra Shekhar Dubey is a poet, translator,researcher and teacher. He is Associate Professor in the Department of English, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College(E), University of Delhi. He has published books, poems, reviews, short stories and research papers. He published three books of his poems titled “ Ripple On A Stone ”, Writers Workshop, Calcutta,1994, “Substance of Shadows”, Swati Publication, NewDelhi, 2007, “Real Resonance; The Unreal Mind, Sambhavi, Kolkata,2015. His poems have been widely anthologized nationally and internationally. He edited the translated version of Ramcharitmanas, Richa Publication, New Delhi, 1999. He translated poems, short stories and theological works from Hindi to English. He is associated with many literary bodies and journals as advisory member, fellow member and editor.
