Kanchan Dhar (Colours of Love and Barriers)

Kanchan Dhar
Kanchan Dhar is a writer and editor from Pondicherry/Odisha, India. Her poems and essays have found places in several anthologies and journals. She works from home as senior editor at Straive (Pondicherry) and maintains residence with her sister and dogs in a quaint, little town in Odisha. Kanchan loves gardening and collecting books. She says she would take even old, ragged pages to her shelves if words on them have even an ounce of worth.

The Devoted

One day, there will be no more pulling back
One day, fear will bow in allegiance
And in peace depart.
One day, the regular plunge will become a last fall
And I won’t even know
What’s blood, what’s freedom
In the blur of existence,

I will only know
It is time to rise
To dare and love again
To trudge up mountain ways again
Balmed by ferocious rivers
As the summit awaits
The glory of a sunrise.
