Jerome Berglund has worked as everything from dishwasher to paralegal, night watchman to assembler of heart valves. Many haiku, haiga and haibun he’s written have been exhibited or are forthcoming online and in print, most recently in bottle rockets, Frogpond, Kingfisher, and Presence. His first full-length collections of poetry were released by Setu, Meat For Tea, Mōtus Audāx press, and a mixed media chapbook showcasing his fine art photography is available now from Yavanika.

Haibun/Haiku + Concrete Poem: Marjorie Pezzoli

More than three different ideas flashed through my mind upon viewing Josiah’s line drawing.

A wheat stock, swimming in mid air, reaching up, tears, and grief becoming love. His ink work has this intriguing ethereal quality to it. Each drawing makes me think. This piece was not part of his “Complete the Haiga” prompt series. He encouraged me to write a haibun, something I have not done before. This process re-opened a door of exploration to the cosmos. My story expressions expanded, brought me back to the beginning of self explanation of why my daughter, Alyssa, left this earthly plain in 2013. I had to become a superhero for myself to deal with this loss. A graphic novel hybrid project started in 2016 in order to have continued adventures with her. Still unfinished. After 10 years of being out in the stars and helping out with three quests, it is time to share our story. There are times it takes a Village to make things happen. The writing, poetry, and art community has helped me greatly. Along with the love of family, friends, especially my husband, son, and Beau, the dog who has Betty Davis eyes. My girl still sends me signs that make the unbearable - bearable. She had a large beautiful wheat bouquet tattoo tied with a ribbon on her side, maybe now you know why Josiah’s line drawing blew me away.

Cathryn Stone - Masters of Form

Cathryn Stone started writing poems in primary school and has dabbled on and off ever since. She’s written poems, short stories and even the occasional song. Cathryn has had multiple sclerosis since at least 1984, among other things affecting word retrieval and use of language. In 2020 she started a personal creative writing challenge and reasoned that haiku or senryu could suit it perfectly even though she had never written any before. The more Stone composed, the more she enjoyed the practice! She decided to write in a more illustrative style to create visual interest.

R. W. Watkins - Masters of Form

R. W. Watkins is a Canadian poet, essayist and editor. He was creator and publisher of Contemporary Ghazals, the world’s first English-language journal dedicated to the ghazal form. He was also the only Canadian included in Agha Shahid Ali’s Ravishing DisUnities, the world’s first anthology of English-language ghazals. In the 1990s and 2000s, his work appeared regularly in the haiku journals, and he has published several books of haiku and related verse forms—the most recent being the two Insight collections. In 2020 he edited Wholly Trinities: The Nocturnal Iris Anthology of Sijo in English, and in 2022 he compiled Early Journeys, Forgotten Logs: The Nocturnal Iris Anthology of Ancient Ghazals in English. As well, his short fiction, essays, and interviews with cartoonists have appeared regularly in Pattern Recognition. At present, Watkins continues to edit Eastern Structures, the magazine of Asian poetic forms that he began publishing in 2016. Alcosexual, the second of two collections of his 1980s and ’90s free verse, is his most recent book. Outspoken on many issues, he resides in Newfoundland, Canada.

Eavonka Ettinger - Masters of Form

Eavonka Ettinger arrived at haiku after a journey through theatre, film, spoken word poetry, and teaching. She’s a Touchstone Award, Red Moon Anthology, and Best of the Net nominee. A few places her work has recently appeared are whiptail, Wales Haiku Journal, haikuKATHA, Failed Haiku, Poetry Pea, Cicada’s Cry, Pan Haiku Review, Litmora Literary Magazine, Tsuri-doro, Shadow Pond Journal, haikuNetra, Five Fleas (Itchy Poetry) and Prune Juice. She lives in Long Beach, CA with her husband and cat.
