Poetry by Daya Dissanayake

Daya Dissanayake

Cancer drugs

Dollar count
Keep rising
Spreading out
From the center
Into virgin regions
Taking firm root

Dollar count
Keep rising
At each site

State regulations
Competition
Threats
Nothing can stop
The dollar count
As it sucks
All other accounts
Dry

Then
There are always
New pastures

A most painful death
For most patients
Caused by the drugs
Which never kill
The disease.

Visual Poetry

Long ago
Poets
Would have spent the whole night
Reading
Sharing
And
Enjoying their creativity
Today
At poetry readings
Our poetry
Is controlled
By the timer
On our phone

Yet today we WRITE
Poetry
to be READ with our eyes.
