Poetry and Painting: The Universal Communion

(Painting by George Onsy, 1995)

From my fantasia: The Night of Reading the History (George Onsy)

I am a being
Living by
George Onsy
The eternal Communication;
The communion,
That marries
Times to places
Whatever their periods,
Distances are,
However, they may
Influence
Men’s awareness.
I breathe in
The universal air
Which has been
Shared by
Innumerable creatures
Since the far most past
And by which
Millions continue
To live in the present.
Yes, we all enjoy
Inhaling
The same air
And breeze
Throughout each
Of the four seasons
Of thousands
And thousands of years

The water filling my glass,
Hasn’t it been running
Through lakes, seas
And oceans
For thousands of years?
Didn’t they rise,
High above,
Forming clouds,
To return down in rains,
To flow through
Rivers deep,
Then canals, brooks,
And waterfalls
Before it touches my lips?
What has continued
To nourish every flesh
Isn’t it still satisfying
My hunger, feeding
My body?
Hasn’t it come
To my dinner table
From so many farms,
Countless fields,
And innumerable
Fruit trees

As for my senses,
I feel they are nothing
But windows wide open,
Through which my soul
Can look out of
The barriers of
My place and time
What each and
Every eye
Has seen throughout
Our long history
Yes, I can also see
In all that’s seen;
Glares, rays, reflections,
Shades, and shadows,
The whisper
Of daily breeze,
The rustle of fresh leaves,
The murmur
Of new born waves,
Record for my ears
All that has been,
To many and more ears,
Murmured, whispered,
And said for ages.

Yes, I still hear
All that has been
Versed,
Sung and read.
I smell
The fragrance
Of generations
Of roses and flowers
As well as smokes
And fumes born
From heat and fire
And all have been
Smelt by many
Before and will be
By more
After me.

Hand Painted Mandalas

by Sandra Joran
Sandra Joran

Sandra has been creating her hand painted mandalas for over sixteen years. Each one is a one-off original, some on canvas, others on art paper using mixed media. She uses a large range of inks, paints, coloured pencils, metallic gold and silver paints, and gouache to create these highly detailed works. All works consist of geometric symmetry and usually contain symbols referring to esoteric, occult and spiritual matters. In Sandra’s own words, “To me mandalas are symbols of harmony and peace. They represent beauty in the world, stillness and calm. Their centre radiates out to a circumference and outer circle that has no beginning or end, wholeness, completeness.”

Poetry and Artwork - George Onsy

TO EVE EVERYWHERE FROM ADAM OF ALL TIMES

George Onsy
It took You,
God
More than
Just one rib
To form
Her structure
So tender
So fancy
To let
My impossible
Dream
Step out of
The realm of
Fantasy.

It took you
More than
Just one rib
To answer
The yearning
Of my heart,
Modeling
This living piece
Of fine art.
Woman

Yes,
You did take
Just one rib,
Altering my whole
Anatomy
Promising to put
Instead
Pleasure
In the place
Of loneliness,
Of agony.

You took
That one rib,
Filling
Its gloomy void
With
Strawberry-red
Flame of
Fire
That when I just
Woke up
I found no name
But called it
“Desire”.

Thanks be to you
God
For in my life
She waves
Wondering
Between
The reality and
Myth
But without her,
My so-called life
Would always have
The taste of
Death.
O God,

God,
If you had not
Done
I would have
Taken out
My very heart
Out of the depth
Of my core,
Held it up, asking:
And this, Lord,
What is it for?

TO GOD FOR THE WOMAN

O God
Thank you for
The woman
In man’s life
She gives him
A reason
To be, to try, to strife.
She is your very touch
Through which
You would like
To love giving so much.
She is the melody
Of your guiding voice
Where dancing
Will be the only choice.
She is the colors
Spread by
Your shining sun
Filling the air with
Laughs, songs and fun.
She is the reflection of
Your smiling moon
On joyful rivers
Flowing soft.
Running fast
Until they dive into
The boundless ocean
To be one at last.

TO THE BLOOD

(In Memory of Violence Victims Everywhere)

O blood,
I wish you had
A sound
To crack the silence
Of conscience’s
Sleep profound
O blood,
I wish you had
No color
Reminding me
Of a flower
Once given
By a victim
To his lover
O blood,
Others’ or mine,
Stay on earth
To draw clear
A long-awaited
Red line.

THE SEA DEFENDING HIMSELF

(In Memory of the Little Child Found Dead on the Seashore)

No, no, not me!!
It’s not me!
Who could do
Such a horrible thing
For whatever reason
It may be

It’s not me!
It is a creature,
Who calls himself
‘Human being’,
Who did it,
Didn’t he??

It’s not me!
Who made of myself
A refuge for desperate
Souls fleeing a graveyard
That’s once been
A dear homeland
Have you forgotten?!!
I’m not the harbor,
I’m the sea.

It’s not me
So, I’ve just
Thrown him up.
He never belongs here,
I’m only trying
To set him free.

It’s not me!
For if the deluge
Of innocent blood
Ever stains
My loyal blue
I would turn my water
Into tears to stay
Forever the sea
You wish to see.

YOU ARE LOVE – 8

On Divine Love
To God ….

You are love
And so often
In my distress
You surprise me
With tender breezes
That softly soothe
My complaining skin
Oh, such a bliss!
I wish to ask you:
Is that your whisper
Or your kiss?

India’s Wheel of Existence & Temple of Athena

(TO MY CREATURES – 3)
I was going to write a poem. But my words got bored. They revolted. They moved. They jumped up and down. They ran away from all circles of meanings, getting unbound … unfolded. Their letters got loose, expanding … stretching on the white horizons of my painting sheet to become long lines, entangled … interwoven by the heat of emotions until they form together shapes, figures and bodies
With my latest painting: ETERNORAMA 2

George Onsy © Aug 2016 . 50 X 70 cm . Watercolors on cardboard
… These are my creatures ...
O my sweet creatures!
You’ve come into being
By my lusting brush
As it’s been caressing
The very skin of
A passionately stretching
Painting board
I can see you
Trying to touch
Those legendary heroes
Carved on
The Temple of Athena’s
Frieze metopes
There, there
In my beloved
Immortal Greece
I can see you
Trying to move
My sacred Eternal India’s
Wheel of Existence
Round and round
Bringing to being
Yourselves and others
That are yet to exist.

YOU ARE LOVE– 2

You are love
And so it happened
That you formed me
Out of the bottomless
Abyss of nothingness
With your vision
Of a divine poet,
With your hands
Of an almighty sculptor,
With your fingers
Of a harpist
Of eternal melodies.
Oh, oh, how I love
The miracle of art
I’ve come to be!
