Poetry: Iulia Gherghei

Iulia Gherghei
How to describe an angel

You could tell that she was a beautiful woman
You could still tell that she was a beautiful woman
A sweet surrender was bending her smile
Her stare was so warm, so cuddly still
Lines crossing lines
A map drawn on her face
Put her beauty between brackets
Yeah, you could still see her beauty shining
Her generous smile, her courage were contagious
Not in the sense of a plague, but you know..
She would light up the place no matter how gloomy it was
And maybe she wasn't even that pretty
We were all absorbed by her angelic posture
Bedazzled, transfixed by her aura
Stripped of our troubles entirely
Lighter and suddenly joyfull
***

Fall, only fall

Rain, insidios rain
Cannibal rain
Impoverishing rain

Droplets, tormenting droplets
Ledges, drums for the droplets
Punishment for the eardrums
Droplets

Fall, only fall
Fallen leaves, pavements soaked
Drenched in leaves
Putrid leaves

Puddles bitting at our shoes
Puddles sipping the whole army of clouds
Puddles

Rain, more rain, only rain

Women growing sad, their wrinkles follow the droplets' pattern on the sheet of  the glass
Their lives grow roots that meet the trees' roots under pavements
Women

Knots germinating
Brewing new seasons
Knots

But for now

Rain, insidios rain
Cannibal rain
Neauseating rain
Breaking knees rain

No, no longer a god!

I am a cloud, he said
Lavishingly spreading his glee on my windows
No, you are not
I frown and mumble in my chin
You, sir, are a figment of my imagination
Be true to yourself, dear
Your jealousy might change my mood
From fluffy, feathery white I might turn to dark stormy, lighting spitting in a blink of an eye
If I say I am a cloud, then, goddammit
I am
I have all the features
The grace, the plump form, the easiness to glide on the open blue sky
I can smile as easily I can thunder my curses through my lashes
I definitely spy on you every chance I get
No, no longer I am a god
From now on
you all will treat me as a passing cloud
A midsummer innocent cloud
A light prayer to a merciful sky

The Icicle darts

The white storm
The snow fall
The silence wall
Broken by the harsh winds
The winds with thousands of claws
Icicle darts built a new architecture
Frostbite  spread up like blossoms in spring
A white desert ravished by blizzard
A map of lost and found
Seasons
Of  white storms
Of snow falls
Of silence walls

Preparing the winter scene

Last night the sky gave birth to
A half fat moon
She was hanging there
So close that my hand could
Cuddle her golden belly
And I remember that winter is coming
So the sky gets closer
Even the clouds today
A whole army of airy muses
Slowly navigating by my windows
Even them are much lower
More cuddled into my space
Like a winter coat you wrap it tight
Around you as if the air will actually burn you with its coldness
Am I ready for this winter
For this dramatic display by my windows
Am I ready for the perfect silence after the snow storm
Am I ready to live inside the snow ball my sky will become....

Short movie with fog

The melancholy spreads its veils
Over the barren trees
Cinematic, the fog moves slowly
The earth is muted and
The silence takes the form of the glasses
The fractured time would do anything
To glue its shards back but
The splinters of the luscious and velvety
Fabric break through the time warp
And continuosly chew the elusive dream
The fog pushes its vapours away from my window
The barren trees are dripping sadness
From all their branches
Cinematic, I implode and as a dust particle
I join the seas of melancholy

Blue Ode

The mighty Blue Pine tree reigns over a town
knelt down by cement
Rivers of asphalt cross under his branches
mapping the way to a slow, coiling death
I walked on that side walk for years
Never noticed him
Blinded by my greed
Confused by the cars mirrors
Suffocated by pollution
Intoxicated by my own reflection in the windows
Never took the time to break the opaque citadel that was growing around me
The only song that was played in my years was
'I need, I want, I ought to have'
And repeat, and repeat
Never enough, not a moment to breathe ever
But today I stopped
Here it was: Majestic and blue
Owning the city for itself
Exhaling oxygen just for me

Little white burdens

It is snowing over the city
Finally
Each snowflake melting a sin
floating in silence
Cleaning the air, cleansing the souls

The grey sky, heavy with white little burdens
Is sending us his angels
To permeate our armours
so we experience flight
Who knows who will taste the heavens

Finally

A touch of undefined

My walls hide more walls
Clusters of walls hiding more walls
Imprisoning the infinity
Small or big
The mighty infinite contains all the possibilities
Layers of walls upon walls
Veils over curtains
Curtains over the undefined
Craving for a wall to catch shape
My walls, your walls
Infinity sliding on them
Lazily
That wormhole who separates
my heart beat from yours

Three poems by Iulia Gherghei

Iulia Gherghei
So that is how winter starts

Yesterday
A puddle sipped
All the clouds

And now
both frozen
We let the dawn slide by
Noiseless
Only breaths

My vapours and yours
crowding
in the yellow light of the bus
Will be close friends
till the next stop

A puddle sipped
all the clouds
yesterday
A sharded sky snowed them back on us

Anticipating winter

Already tired,
even if the sun is bright
and this day seems harmless

A huge darkness accumulates inside me
like the sharp tongue of a thaw
harsh winds are rolling my thoughts

A storm feeds her central eye with my light
the sun can't penetrate this armour
and due to this pressure difference, tears turn to snow

In between

Sick and tired of plastic figure heroes
That fill my TV screen
A whole bunch showing off their muscle
Like a striptease show though the shinny bar is missing
I take a plunge into the closer realm
Where men have long faces
Wrinkles like knives cuts
Smell of bitter sweat and alcohol
All in a cloud of smoke electrified by anger
Pretty much like a plasma
A TV plasma
And now I smile
Free to watch the super hero further
And sincerely pity the ordinary one
No matter if the show is on the walls of the cave or behind me
I am stuck in between so
At least to enjoy it
